At Milwaukee Achiever, we pride ourselves on matching learners with tutors and instructors who are best suited to individual learning styles and goals. Nearly 300 volunteer tutors help us to provide literacy services to our learners. Our tutors are thoroughly trained and oriented to the resources available at our community centers. Most importantly, they understand the unique challenges facing adult learners and work as learner advocates to assist in the achievement of goals.
Each of our learners has his or her own special story and path in life. Our learners come from nearly fifty countries. They are of many ages, ethnicities, learning styles and have many different goals. One of our learners wants to be able to help her son with his schoolwork. Another is seeking to further her career in our Bilingual Medical Interpreting program. Milwaukee Achiever honors these diverse stories in many ways! We affirm the worth of every individual who enters our doors. We offer our learners leadership opportunities and avenues to provide us with feedback on our services. We encourage our learners to channel their diverse backgrounds into their goals and efforts, because everyone has special strengths.
Everyone learns differently. Are you an auditory, visual or kinesthetic learner? Are you all of the above? A blend? As a Milwaukee Achiever learner, you'll have the opportunity to learn in new ways and benefit from our commitment to the integration of technology into teaching. You and your tutor may spend a class period in one our computer labs working online. Or you may enjoy a topic presented on one of our SmartBoards, generously donated to Milwaukee Achiever by Anthem in 2010. Being a learner at Milwaukee Achiever is not the same old school experience - be prepared to learn something new - and have fun, too!
Our learners successes are Milwaukee Achiever successes, so we will do all we can to help you realize your goals: It's why we're here! Since 1983, Milwaukee Achiever has empowered and inspired nearly 20,000 learners in our city. Each year in January, we hold a special celebration of our GED graduates and learners who have achieved excellence in their field of study: English Language Learning, GED studies, Adult Basic Education and Workforce Development. This is our chance to honor your efforts, and your chance to show your friends and family how much you've accomplished! The Annual Graduation and Achievement Event is generously hosted by one of our three founding colleges and typically occurs on the last Friday evening in January.
