Milwaukee Achiever's Severe Weather & Emergency Closures Policy
As we head into the Wisconsin winter, please take note that, should there be a severe weather event, Milwaukee Achiever will close our community learning centers in order to protect the safety of staff, volunteers and our learners. Closures will be announced on the local television channels and their websites, on our website (on this page and on our Facebook feed), and on our voicemail systems. If you are uncertain whether or not our centers are closed for classes, please call the Center's main line and listen to the recording for updates. The Business Journal Announces the 2012 "Forty Under 40" Awardees.
Milwaukee Achiever is extremely proud that our own Tracy Loken Weber has been named a Forty Under 40 Award recipient!   In its 19th year, the Forty Under 40 awards celebrates the achievements of our city's young leaders who are working to ensure a brighter future for all.  In her six years with our organization, Tracy has done just that through her tireless work on behalf of Milwaukee's adult learners.  Awardees will be honored in a special section of The Business Journal's February issue and at a special event on February 27.  Congratulations, Tracy!

Milwaukee Achiever Literacy Services Names Executive Director!
Milwaukee Achiever welcomes Tracy Loken Weber as its new Executive Director.  Ms. Loken Weber will lead the agency beginning on January 1, 2012, and brings years of education and adult literacy experience with her.  Prior to this position, Ms. Weber was the Programs Director for the agency.  Read the full Press Release here!  Congratulations, Tracy!

Thanks go out to the members of Eating in for Milwaukee, who have made a generous donation in support of tutoring for twelve of our learners. Eating in for Milwaukee is a group of socially-conscious women that gathers several times a year for a potluck supper in one of the member's homes. Each member donates an amount that she would have otherwise spent by going out to eat. These donations are then given to a selected local nonprofit. We are very grateful for the generosity and ingenuity of this group - and for the opportunity to visit and discuss our work in the community!

Milwaukee Achiever would like to extend warmest thanks to the First Unitarian Society of Milwaukee for its recent gift in support of our mission and programming - thank you! Milwaukee Achiever was nominated to be the First Unitarian Society's Share the Plate recipient for the month of September. Each month, this faith community designates a nonprofit that will receive a portion of the weekly Sunday collection...we are honored to have been the beneficiaries of this generous program!

Our Annual Holiday Appeal is underway! Many organizations conduct an appeal at this time of seasonal giving. While we are no exception, Milwaukee Achiever hopes that this holiday season, our constituents will consider giving the gift of literacy - this is the gift that "pays forward," because those who benefit from our services will enrich the community with their increased literacy levels and new-found empowerment. Please join our effort to be a part of the solution to adult illiteracy in our city! And thank you!

Be sure to check out our interactive online calendars that show all of our upcoming events for tutors and learners. Simply click on an event in order to gain more information about it (time, place, how to register, etc.). Some examples of upcoming events you might be interested in learning about include a tutor training on GED and Adult Basic Education instruction (October 13), another tutor training on using our SmartBoards for enriching the learning experience (October 17), registration for the spring semester of our Mount Mary College in Community Program (various dates, starting October 11) and new tutor orientations.
