Fall Into Literacy Tutor Training Extravaganza!

Do we ever have an exciting and useful program planned for this fall's Tutor Training Extravaganza. As in the past, the tutor in-service will occur at Scott Center, and will be held on Wednesday, August 29, from 9:00 am - 3:30 pm. Come for all or part of the day. A complementary lunch will be provided. Here is the schedule:

8:30-9:00 am: Registration & Continental Breakfast
9:00-9:30 am: Welcome & Resource Sharing
9:30 am - 1:00 pm: Workshops on a  variety of useful topics:
 ELL/ESL Strategies for Adults
 Exploring ELL/ESL activities and resources
 Teaching Methods for Low-Level Literacy Learners
 Strategies for Working with Individuals with (Often Undiagnosed) Disabilities: Continued
 Advocacy: Sharing the Milwaukee Achiever Story
1:00-1:30 pm: Lunch!
1:30-3:30 pm: Citizenship 101 with the US Homeland Security office presenting a "mock" citizenship interview!

Financial Literacy Workshops in May

In part two of a series of workshops being presented by US Bank, Milwaukee Achiever is hosting two days of Financial Literacy workshops on Tuesday, May 1 and Wednesday, May 2, at both of our community learning centers.The topics of focus in these workshops will be lending and credit - what to look out for and how to be a wise consumer in these areas. The workshops will be held from 10:15-11:40 am at Scott Center on both May 1 and 2 and from 12:00 to 1:15 pm at Silver Spring Center.

Our Spring Tutor In-Service Extravaganza!

Attention, Milwaukee Achiever Tutors!  Please Save the Date for our Spring Tutor In-Service.  It will be held on Thursday, April 19 in the evening (from 4:30-7:30 pm) at Scott Center.  We'll again enjoy the expertise and perspective of speakers from our Founding Colleges, as well as time for tutors to share experiences and enjoy refreshments.  Please RSVP by April 5 as we are capping registration at 55 attendees. Coming in March: Job Search Skills Workshop!

Join us on Monday, March 19 (at Scott Center) or Tuesday, March 20 (at Silver Spring Center) at 5:30 for a Job Search Skills Workshop, hosted by Milwaukee Achiever and presented by Alverno College's Career Center!  In this workshop, you'll learn the "4 Basic Steps" of preparing for a job search, as well as resume-writing tips - all from the experts!  The workshop will be held at Milwaukee Achiever's Silver Spring Center (5566 North 69th Street).  Please call Holly to register: 414-463-7389.
